The research was conducted by Savills and examines the areas most likely to be 'recession proof'. All of them are areas where million pound houses are prevalent and the research also proves that while in other sectors of the housing market prices have fallen, the most exclusive addresses in the UK continue to see an increase in prices.

The London borough of Kensington and Chelsea is the most expensive address in the UK and the Telegraph report illustrates that it is still pulling in prices of more than a million pounds.

Sandbanks in Dorset is another area where the property market continues to remain strong. The lure of the golden sands, spectacular views and unique seaside lifestyle, with Pimms on the balcony overlooking the sea view in the summer, good schools and excellent transport links to London certainly make Sandbanks an appealing location, and properties with a sea view continue to change hands for more than a million pounds.

Other areas on the recession-proof list include Surrey, Essex and Harrogate in North Yorkshire.
